The Teaching and Learning Cycle

North Park follows the Teaching and Learning Cycle for all planning and instruction. The teaching and learning cycle has four parts:

  • W-What we Teach- The Standards
  • H- How we know students are Learning- Assessment and checks for understanding
  • H- How we Teach- Best Practices
  • W- What do we do when students either are learning above their classmates or are struggling in the learning process otherwise known as differentiation.

Best Practices in Teaching and Learning

Our work here at North Park is focused on student success. This is a huge undertaking here at North Park. First, student success does not happen without our staff being well prepared and enjoy a positive culture and climate. If you notice the graphic above, there are several characteristics that surround the outer edge of each part of the cycle:

  • Culture and Climate
  • Support and Professional Development
  • Collaboration and Planning
  • Whole Child.

These supports are extremely important to the work of student success that is found in the middle of the framework and are mainly focused on the environment that the adults create to enhance student wellbeing and academic growth.

The inner supports are non-negotiable evidence based teaching strategies to help staff and students reach their goals. Staff have been trained in the practices found in the book, Phenomenal Teaching
